"And the apostles
Said unto the Lord,
'Increase our faith.'
And the Lord said,
'If ye had faith
As a grain of mustard seed,
Ye might say unto this
Sycamine tree,
'Be thou plucked up
By the root,
And be thou planted
In the sea;'
And it should obey you.' "Luke 17:5-6
A mustard seed?
Perhaps.
But surely only
At the start.
Because aren't we supposed
To water it,
And weed it,
And nurture it,
And feed it,
Until our seed of faith
Becomes as mighty as a tree?
But no,
This isn't what
The Savior said at all.
Nor did He ever indicate,
That our seed of faith
Would need to grow so tall.
And the only time
It seems He did,
The tiny seed He spoke of,
Did not refer to faith at all.
Instead,
It symbolized
The growth and spread,
Of the kingdom of God
On earth.Matthew 13:31-32Mark 4:30-32Luke 13:18-19
Okay,
Then perhaps what Jesus
Really meant was,
That a mustard seed of faith
Can move a mountain,Matthew 17:20
But only if it's genuine,
And certified as true?
And only if there's not
An ounce of doubt
In our heart,
That disbelieves
What God can do?
